Aviator Amelia Earhart became the first female pilot to accomplish a solo, nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Flying the red Lockheed Vega 5B, Earhart traveled over 2,000 miles from Newfoundland to Ireland over the North Atlantic in just under 15 hours.
