The History of Allen Fieldhouse
Allen Fieldhouse, often called the “Cathedral of College Basketball,” is one of the most storied and intimidating arenas in the world. Located on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence, it opened on March 1, 1955, and was dedicated with a Jayhawk victory over rival Kansas State (77-66) before a capacity crowd of 17,228 fans.
Named after the legendary Dr. Forrest C. “Phog” Allen — a pioneer of the game who played for basketball inventor James Naismith and coached at KU for 39 seasons — the Fieldhouse sits on James Naismith Court. It has served as home to the Kansas Jayhawks for over 70 years, hosting countless memorable games, conference titles, and NCAA tournament runs.
Known for its passionate fans and electric atmosphere, Allen Fieldhouse has been praised as one of the greatest venues in American sports. Under coaches like Bill Self, it has become nearly unbeatable at home, helping power the Jayhawks to multiple Big 12 championships and deep NCAA runs.
Owning a piece of the original Home Locker Room bench wood means you hold a tangible fragment of Kansas basketball history — a place where future NBA stars, Olympic athletes, and Hall of Famers have sat, prepared, and dreamed before stepping onto the court.

Introducing a brand new line of custom crafted molds that are sure to change the hand casting industry. These are semi-permanent in nature. They won't warp or crack but will take lots of abuse, unlike traditional silicone molds. These tough molds are solid bodies, milled from blocks of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). Demolding is easy! Just pull the suction plugs, turn the mold upside down, rap the ends a few times on your work bench and watch the blanks fall out. These true beasts are designed to DEVOUR THE COMPETITION!
This model has overall dimensions of 4.5" sq x 3" tall with SIX casting chambers, each measuring 2.5" tall x 1.5" round. This will deliver blanks perfect for turning bottle stoppers and duck call bodies. The blanks can easily be end trimmed and squared up on a table saw, if so desired.
Important Notes:
A release agent must be used due to the rigidity of the molds. Maneater Wax Mold Release is highly recommended. Just brush the release agent into the chambers, ensuring complete coverage. Allow to dry before pouring your resin. Also apply a release agent on the rubber plugs to keep them free of any resin buildup caused by potential spillage.
A rubberized dead blow hammer will help the demold process greatly. Lightly rap the bottom and sides of the mold once your blanks have fully cured, then turn the mold over and lightly rap the mold ends against your work bench top to see your blanks release. Based on personal experience, Alumilite and polyester resin blanks will release with little effort at all. Epoxy blanks may require a few extra raps or a blast of air from a rubberized nozzle before releasing.
High-capacity 8-slot HDPE casting mold designed specifically for DogBone label casting plugs. Cast two tubes per slot for Jr. Gent, Sierra Clone, Bolt Action, and most other common pen kits.
Product Description (copy/paste ready):
If you love label casting with dogbone plugs and want serious production capacity, this 8-slot tube-in casting mold is the perfect upgrade. Designed to accommodate our dogbone label casting plugs, it lets you cast two tubes per slot for most popular pen kits (Jr. Gent, Sierra Clone, Bolt Action, and more).
Each slot measures 7" long, giving you plenty of room for full-length blanks with excellent results. The mold is precision-milled from durable, virtually indestructible HDPE — no warping or cracking like flexible silicone molds.
Key Features:
- 8 slots — cast up to 16 tubes (2 per slot) in a single pour
- 7" slot length — ideal for standard pen blanks
- Compatible with DogBone label casting plugs
- Works with all common tube sizes (Jr. Gent, Sierra Clone, Bolt Action, etc.)
- Designed for pressure casting in 5-gallon or larger resin pressure pots (will NOT fit in 2.5-gallon pots)
- Robust construction built for repeated use
This mold is strictly intended for tube-in / label casting. All standard casting resins perform great, including JB Royal Epoxy, Alumilite urethane, other epoxy resins, and polyester resins.
Important Notes:
- A good release agent is required. We highly recommend applying it thoroughly to the chambers and any plugs/inserts before pouring.
- For easiest demolding, use a rubberized dead blow hammer after full cure. Tap the bottom and sides, then flip and tap the ends on your workbench.
- Alumilite and polyester blanks typically release very easily. Epoxy blanks may need a few extra taps or a blast of compressed air.
Usage Tips:
- Always pressure cast when possible for bubble-free results.
- Test your setup in your pressure pot before full production runs.
- Clean the mold thoroughly after each use for maximum lifespan.
This heavy-duty mold is perfect for serious hobbyists and volume casters who want reliable, repeatable results with DogBone label casting.
Purple Heart Wood Pen Blanks – 5" × ¾" Square
Scientific Name: Peltogyne spp. Common Names: Purpleheart, Amaranth, Roxinho, Violeta, Pau Roxo

Description & Characteristics
True to its name, Purpleheart is famous for its vibrant, natural violet-to-deep-purple heartwood. When freshly cut, the color is often more muted (reddish-brown to salmon), but it dramatically shifts to rich purple upon exposure to light and air. Over time and with UV exposure, it can darken to a chocolate brown, giving finished pens a unique aging character. It features a fine, uniform texture with mostly straight grain (occasionally wavy or interlocked), producing a smooth, lustrous finish that highlights its bold color.
These premium 5" × ¾" square pen blanks are kiln-dried, pre-squared, and hand-selected for vibrant color and minimal defects. They turn into eye-catching pens that stand out in any collection — perfect for bold, modern, or statement pieces.
Turning Tips for Purple Heart Wood
- Color & Figure: The signature purple hue creates dramatic, high-contrast pens. The color intensifies with light exposure but may shift to brown over years — a natural trait that adds character.
- Workability: Very dense and hard (Janka hardness typically 1,860–2,520 lbf). Use sharp carbide or HSS tools at moderate speeds (1,800–2,500 RPM) to avoid overheating, which can cause gummy resin buildup or burning. It turns cleanly when sharp but can show tear-out in end grain — take light cuts. Has a mild, pleasant scent while turning.
- Sanding & Finishing: Sands beautifully to a glass-smooth finish and accepts most pen finishes exceptionally well (CA glue, epoxy, friction polish, etc.), resulting in a deep, glossy luster.
- Dust & Safety: Produces fine dust — always use good dust extraction and a respirator. Extremely durable and stable once finished.
Ideal for pen makers who want a bold, exotic look with exceptional strength and longevity. Purpleheart pens feel substantial, turn heads, and develop a rich patina that tells a story.

- Tools & Technique: Sharp carbide tools are highly recommended for smooth cutting and minimal tear-out. Use light cuts at moderate lathe speeds.
- Sanding & Finishing: Sands smoothly and takes CA glue, friction polish, shellac, and most pen finishes exceptionally well, achieving a deep, glassy shine.
