Ohio Stadium, also known as the Horseshoe, the Shoe, and the House That Harley Built, is an American football stadium in Columbus, Ohio, on the campus of The Ohio State University. Its primary purpose is the home venue of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team; it also serves as the site for the university's Spring Commencement ceremonies each May.
From 1996 to 1998, Ohio Stadium was the home venue for the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer prior to the opening of Columbus Crew Stadium in 1999. The stadium also was the home venue for the OSU track and field teams from 1923-2001. In addition to athletics, Ohio Stadium is also a concert venue, with U2, Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Metallica among the many acts to have played at the venue.
The stadium opened in 1922 as a replacement for Ohio Field and had a seating capacity of 66,210. In 1923, a cinder running track was added that was later upgraded to an all-weather track. Seating capacity gradually increased over the years and reached a total of 91,470 possible spectators in 1991. Beginning in 2000, the stadium was renovated and expanded in several phases, removing the track and adding additional seating, which raised the capacity to 101,568 by 2001 and to 102,329 in 2007. In 2014, additional seating was added in the end zone, raising the official capacity to 104,944. Another renovation to add more luxury suites began in 2017 and will eventually lead to a decrease of 2,600 seats. It is the largest stadium by capacity in the state of Ohio, and the third largest on-campus football stadium in the United States. Ohio Stadium was added to the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service on March 22, 1974.

Mount Vernon is a historic national landmark and former plantation of the first president of the United States, George Washington and his wife, Martha. The estate is on the banks of the Potomac River in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is located south of Washington, DC and Alexandria, VA and across the river from Prince George's County, MD.
The Washington family acquired land in the area in 1674. Around 1734, the family embarked on an expansion of its estate that continued under George Washington, who began leasing the estate in 1754 before becoming its sole owner in 1761.
The original mansion was built around 1734 by George Washington's father, Augustine. George Washington expanded the house twice, once in the late 1750s and again in the 1770s. It remained Washington's home for the rest of his life. Following his death in 1799, under the ownership of several successive generations of the family, the estate progressively declined as revenues were insufficient to maintain it adequately. It wasn’t until 1858 that the house’s historical importance was recognized and saved from ruin by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association.
The pecan tree featured below was removed in Jan 2014 due to the risks of the tree damaging the Mansion. George Washington did not plant this tree. He didn't have any trees of this size close to his home. It is believed the pecan tree was planted about 60 years after he passed away, around 1860, making it an estimated 154 years old. The tree stood approximately 145 feet tall and weighed an estimated 50 tons.

Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, commonly known as RFK Stadium, was a historic multi-purpose venue located in Washington, D.C., along the Anacostia River. Opened on October 1, 1961, as District of Columbia Stadium, it was one of the first stadiums designed to accommodate both baseball and football, with a circular "cookie-cutter" layout. Built at a cost of $24 million, it initially seated around 43,500 for football and up to 45,000 for baseball. The stadium was renamed in 1969 to honor Senator Robert F. Kennedy following his assassination, reflecting its role as a national landmark.
Over its decades of operation, RFK hosted numerous professional and college teams. The Washington Redskins (now Commanders) called it home from 1961 to 1996, winning three Super Bowls during their tenure. In baseball, the Washington Senators played there from 1962 to 1971 before relocating to Texas, and the Washington Nationals used it temporarily from 2005 to 2007. Soccer was prominent too, with D.C. United of Major League Soccer residing from 1996 to 2017, alongside earlier teams like the Washington Whips (1967–1968), Washington Diplomats (1974–1981), and Team America (1983). College football teams included the George Washington Colonials (1961–1966) and Howard Bison (various years up to 2016). Other squads, such as the Washington Federals of the USFL (1983–1984) and Washington Freedom women's soccer (2001–2003), also played there.
The stadium hosted iconic events, including five NFC Championship games, two MLB All-Star Games (1962 and 1969), 1994 World Cup matches, 1996 Olympic soccer, and concerts by artists like the Beatles and the Grateful Dead.
RFK closed in 2019 after its final event. As of 2025, demolition is underway, with plans for a new stadium for the Washington Commanders set to open in 2030 on the site.

Edison first visited southwest Florida and purchased the property to build a vacation home. Completed in 1886 and later named "Seminole Lodge", this home served as a winter retreat and place of relaxation until Edison's death in 1931. The Edison family enjoyed their home, hosting such guests as Henry Ford, and Harvey Firestone. Edison's good friend, Henry Ford, purchased the adjoining property, "The Mangoes" from Robert Smith of New York in 1916. Ford's craftsman style bungalow was built in 1911 by Smith.
In 1927, Edison, Ford, and Firestone formed the “Edison Botanic Research Corporation” to further their common interest of developing an independent source of rubber. The combined estates have 1700 plants and 400 species from six continents. Many of these were planted by the “Titans of Industry” themselves. Some of these plants were used to conduct experiments toward the common goal of self-sufficient rubber production.
In 1947, Mrs. Mina Edison deeded the Edison property to the City of Fort Myers in memory of her husband for the enjoyment of the public. It was opened for public tours soon after. The adjacent Ford winter estate was sold after Ford’s death in 1947, resold in 1988, and opened for public tours in 1990.
The Edison and Ford Winter Estates contain a historical museum and 21-acre botanical garden on the adjacent sites of the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. Both Edison and Ford estates along the Caloosahatchee River in southwestern Florida have been added to the National Register of Historical Places.

The St. Charles Streetcar line is a historic streetcar line in New Orleans, LA. Beginning operation in 1835, it is the oldest continuously operating streetcar line in the world. Officially the St. Charles Streetcar line is internally designated as Route 12, and it runs along its namesake street, St. Charles Avenue. On most RTA maps and publications, it is denoted in green, the color of the streetcars on this line.
Work began as the New Orleans and Carrollton Rail Road in February 1833. Passenger and freight services by steam locomotives began on September 26, 1835. Service began as a suburban railroad, since Carrollton was at that time a separate city, while areas along the route were still mostly undeveloped. As the area along the line became more urbanized, objections to the soot and noise produced by the locomotives increased, and transport was switched to cars that were powered by horses and mules. Desire grew for a mode more swift and powerful than horses. While the city's first experiments with electric powered cars were made in 1884, electric streetcars were not considered sufficiently developed for widespread use until the following decade, and the line was electrified Feb 1, 1893.
Currently, the St. Charles Streetcar line operates service 24 hours a day.

Following the Battle of Port Republic, the final battle of Gen. Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson’s successful Shenandoah Valley Campaign, Jackson and his men camped near Weyers Cave between the Middle and South Rivers. On June 14, 1862, he and his chief of staff Rev. Robert L. Dabney held a camp prayer service under the canopy of several large trees.
Over time this 350-year-old oak tree stood proudly on the edge of a farm field, located near Mt. Meridian in Augusta County, Grottoes, Virginia. This tree is believed to have been among those shade trees. In Shenandoah Valley legends, this giant oak became known as the “Stonewall Jackson Prayer Tree”.
The disease weakened ancient oak was felled by high winds on May 27, 2011. The farmland and tree were owned by the Wilkerson family, and they knew the story of the old oak and had been careful to preserve it.

On On September 19, 1864, Major General Phillip Sheridan led the VI and XIX Corps in an advance toward Winchester along the Berryville Pike, crossing Opequon Creek east of the town. The Union's initial progress was slowed, allowing Major General Jubal Early to gather his forces to confront the main assault. Both seasoned Union and Confederate divisions engaged fiercely for hours. Eventually, Early's Confederate forces were pushed back toward Winchester, consolidating their defenses around the northern outskirts of the town. In the late afternoon, the VIII Corps and Union cavalry successfully flanked the Confederate left, prompting Early to order a general retreat. This Union triumph marked the beginning of a series of defeats for Early's army in the Shenandoah Valley, from which it would not recover. The Battle of Winchester was notable as the largest and most costly engagement in the region during that time.
The Third Battle of Winchester, also known as the Battle of Opequon or Battle of Opequon Creek, was an American Civil War battle fought near Winchester, Virginia, on September 19, 1864. Union Army Major General Philip Sheridan defeated Confederate Army Lieutenant General Jubal Early in one of the largest, bloodiest, and most important battles in the Shenandoah Valley. Among the 5,000 Union casualties were one general killed and three wounded. The casualty rate for the Confederates was high: about 4,000 of 15,500. Two Confederate generals were killed and four were wounded.

Constitution is most noted for her actions during the War of 1812 against the United Kingdom, when she captured numerous merchant ships and defeated five British warships: HMS Guerriere, Java, Pictou, Cyane, and Levant. Today, Constitution's stated mission today is to promote understanding of the Navy's role in war and peace through educational outreach, historical demonstration, and active participation in public events as part of the Naval History & Heritage Command. Yankee Stadium was a stadium located in the Bronx, a borough of New York City. It was the home ballpark of the New York Yankees, one of the city's Major League Baseball (MLB) franchises, from 1923 to 1973 and then from 1976 to 2008. The stadium hosted 6,581 Yankees regular season home games during its 85-year history. It was also the former home of the New York Giants football team from 1956 through the first part of the 1973-74 football season. The stadium's nickname, "The House That Ruth Built", is derived from Babe Ruth, the baseball superstar whose prime years coincided with the stadium's opening and the beginning of the Yankees' winning history. It has also been known as "The Big Ballpark in The Bronx", "The Stadium", and "The Cathedral of Baseball".
The stadium was built from 1922 to 1923 for $2.4 million ($33.9 million in 2016 dollars). The stadium's construction was paid for entirely by Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert, who was eager to have his own stadium after sharing the Polo Grounds with the New York Giants baseball team the previous 10 years. Yankee Stadium opened for the 1923 MLB season and at the time, it was hailed as a one-of-a-kind facility in the country for its size. Over the course of its history, it became one of the most famous venues in the United States, having hosted a variety of events and historic moments during its existence. While many of these moments were baseball-related—including World Series games, no-hitters, perfect games and historic home runs—the stadium also hosted boxing matches, the 1958 NFL Championship Game, concerts, Jehovah's Witnesses conventions (see record attendance) and three Papal Masses. The stadium went through many alterations and playing surface configurations over the years. The condition of the facility worsened in the 1960s and 1970s, prompting its closing for renovation from 1974 to 1975. The renovation significantly altered the appearance of the venue and reduced the distance of the outfield fences.
In 2006, the Yankees began building a new $2.3 billion stadium in public parkland adjacent to the stadium. The price included $1.2 billion in public subsidies. The design includes a replica of the frieze along the roof that was in Yankee Stadium. Monument Park, a Hall of Fame for prominent former Yankees, was relocated to the new stadium. Yankee Stadium closed following the 2008 baseball season and the new stadium opened in 2009, adopting the "Yankee Stadium" moniker. The original Yankee Stadium was demolished in 2010, two years after it closed, and the 8-acre site was converted into a park called Heritage Field.
