Gordon Howe OC was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. From 1946 to 1980, he played 26 seasons in the NHL and six seasons in the World Hockey Association; his first 25 seasons were spent with the Detroit Red Wings. Nicknamed "Mr. Hockey", Howe is often considered the most complete player to ever play the game and one of the greatest of all time. At his retirement, his 801 goals, 1049 assists, and 1850 total points were all NHL records that stood until they were broken by Wayne Gretzky, who himself has been a major champion of Howe's legacy. A 23-time NHL All-Star, he still holds the NHL record for seasons played, and his all-time NHL games played record of 1,767 was only surpassed in 2021 by Patrick Marleau. In 2017, Howe was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players".

Timothy Leif "T. J." Oshie, born December 23, 1986, is an American professional ice hockey right winger for the NHL Washington Capitals. He was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, as the 24th overall pick. He then spent the first seven years of his NHL career with the St. Louis Blues. Nicklas Bäckström is a Swedish professional ice hockey center and alternate captain for the Washington Capitals of the NHL. Bäckström was selected fourth overall by the Capitals at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

John Carlson is an American professional ice hockey defenseman and alternate captain for the NHL Washington Capitals. He was drafted by the Capitals in the first round, 27th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft after playing a year in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Indiana Ice. Before reaching the NHL, Carlson played junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the London Knights and professionally with the Capitals' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hershey Bears. He also played for the USA in the 2010 World Juniors and 2014 Winter Olympics.

Carlson won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Capitals in 2018, as the highest scoring defenseman during the playoffs. Carlson signed a six-year contract deal with the Capitals following the 2018 season. For the 2019–20 season, the Capitals named Carlson as an alternate captain. Rodney Cory Langway is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman. Langway was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1977 and by the WHA Birmingham Bulls in the same year. He played one season for the Bulls in 1977-78 before joining the Canadiens for the 1978–79 NHL season. The Canadiens went won the Stanley Cup in 1979.

Langway was traded to the Washington Capitals in 1982. This trade is attributed to stopping the franchise from moving out of D.C. The Capitals competed in the postseason in all 11 years while Langway was captain of the team until his retirement in 1993.

As captain, Langway became known as an accomplished leader who demanded greatness from himself and others, earning the nickname "Secretary of Defense". A two-time winner of the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the top defenseman in the NHL, Langway was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002.

Dale Robert Hunter is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and the former head coach of the Washington Capitals of the NHL and current co-owner, president, and head coach of the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. Hunter was born on July 31, 1960 in Petrolia, Ontario, and was one of three brothers to play in the NHL.

Hunter was selected 41st overall by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft and played seven seasons in Quebec before being traded to the Washington Capitals in 1987.

Hunter amassed a staggering 3565 penalty minutes during 1,407 game career, currently the second-most penalty minutes in NHL history behind Dave Williams. He also holds the NHL record for most playoff penalty minutes at 731. Hunter is the only NHL player ever to score over 1,000 points and rack up over 3,000 penalty minutes. Olaf Kölzig, known as Olie the Goalie or Godzilla, is a South African-born German former professional NHL ice hockey goaltender. He is the current goaltender coach and player development coach for the NHL Washington Capitals.

The Capitals selected him 19th overall in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. Kölzig played his first NHL game in the 1989–90 NHL season, but was sent down to the minors until 1995. With the exception of eight games with Tampa Bay at the end of his career, he played his entire 14-year NHL career with the Capitals. On 23 September 2009, Kölzig announced his retirement from the NHL. Later that year, Kölzig was named to the ECHL Hall of Fame at the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game in Ontario, California.
