Dale Robert Hunter is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and the former head coach of the Washington Capitals of the NHL and current co-owner, president, and head coach of the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. Hunter was born on July 31, 1960 in Petrolia, Ontario, and was one of three brothers to play in the NHL.
Hunter was selected 41st overall by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft and played seven seasons in Quebec before being traded to the Washington Capitals in 1987.
Hunter amassed a staggering 3565 penalty minutes during 1,407 game career, currently the second-most penalty minutes in NHL history behind Dave Williams. He also holds the NHL record for most playoff penalty minutes at 731. Hunter is the only NHL player ever to score over 1,000 points and rack up over 3,000 penalty minutes.
