Tamdhu Distillery, founded in 1897, is a renowned Scotch whisky distillery located in the Speyside region of Scotland. The name "Tamdhu" means "little dark hill" in Gaelic, reflecting its picturesque setting near the River Spey. Known for its commitment to tradition, Tamdhu employs sherry oak casks sourced from Jerez, Spain, to age its whiskies, imparting rich and complex flavors that distinguish its products.
The distillery was mothballed in 2010 but revived in 2012 by Ian Macleod Distillers, who restored its production and enhanced its reputation for high-quality single malts. Tamdhu's whiskies are celebrated for their rich, sherried character, with notes of dried fruits, nuts, and spices, making them a favorite among connoisseurs and collectors.
The distillery also offers tours, providing visitors with an immersive experience into the art of whisky-making, from malting to maturation. Guests can explore the historic facilities and witness the meticulous process that ensures the exceptional quality of Tamdhu whiskies. Tamdhu’s dedication to craftsmanship and quality continues to uphold its legacy in the competitive world of Scotch whisky, solidifying its place as a respected name in the industry.
