Glengoyne Distillery, located in Dumgoyne, Scotland, near the border of the Highlands and Lowlands, is celebrated for its unpeated single malt whiskies. Founded in 1833 by the Edmonstone family, it is now owned by Ian Macleod Distillers. Drawing water from the Glengoyne Burn, it produces 1.1 million liters annually using three copper pot stills. Known for its slow distillation process, the slowest in Scotland, Glengoyne yields a smooth, fruit-forward spirit. Its core expressions, like the 12-Year-Old and 18-Year-Old, offer notes of apple, toffee, vanilla, and sherry, primarily matured in ex-sherry and bourbon casks. The distillery avoids peat, emphasizing the purity of its barley and oak influence. A key component in blends like The Famous Grouse, Glengoyne’s single malts are prized for their clarity and balance. Its visitor center, set in a picturesque glen, offers tours, tastings, and a heritage shop, attracting whisky enthusiasts globally. Committed to sustainability, Glengoyne uses local barley and energy-efficient practices, including a wetlands system for waste management. With its rich heritage, elegant whiskies, and scenic location, Glengoyne remains a standout in Scotland’s whisky landscape.
