The Glenrothes Distillery, located in Rothes, Speyside, Scotland, is celebrated for its refined single malt whiskies. Founded in 1879 by James Stuart & Co., it joined the Edrington Group in 1987. Rebuilt after a 1922 fire, it now boasts ten copper pot stills, producing 5.6 million liters annually. Drawing water from the Ardcanny and Brauchhill springs, its whiskies are known for their rich, fruity, and spicy profiles, often matured in sherry-seasoned oak casks. The Glenrothes emphasizes vintage releases over age statements, with standout expressions like the 1998 Vintage and Select Reserve, offering notes of citrus, vanilla, and warm spices. A key contributor to blends like The Famous Grouse, its single malts are bottled by Berry Bros. & Rudd. The distillery’s unique approach includes hand-selecting casks for bottling at peak maturity, ensuring exceptional quality. Its visitor center offers exclusive tastings and tours, showcasing its heritage and craftsmanship. Committed to sustainability, Glenrothes employs energy-efficient practices and sources local barley. With a focus on quality over quantity, it remains a favorite among whisky connoisseurs for its elegant, complex spirit.
