Each Cherry Burl pen blank measures a minimum of 5" long × 3/4" × 3/4" square. Material is genuine American Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) heartwood with dramatic burl figure. All blanks include a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). Pen components sold separately.

These premium pen blanks are crafted from American Black Cherry burl, prized for its rich reddish-brown tones and highly figured, swirling grain patterns. The burl figure adds unique character that makes every turned piece one-of-a-kind. Cherry develops a smooth, satiny luster and deepens beautifully with age and light exposure, delivering a refined, professional appearance. With a Janka hardness of approximately 950 lbf, Cherry burl turns smoothly, accepts finishes well, and offers excellent stability for both beginners and experienced makers.

Turning & Finishing Notes

Cherry burl works beautifully on the lathe with sharp tools. Orient blanks to showcase the burl figure. It responds well to CA glue finishes and Craft Coat for a high polish. Avoid excessive heat during turning to preserve natural color. The fine texture and natural luster respond beautifully to careful sanding and polishing techniques.

Dial in sharp carbide or HSS tools, crank speeds to 2,000–3,000 RPM, and take feather-light cuts (0.005–0.015 inches) to dodge melting or gummy buildup.
