These premium pen blanks are crafted from Tzalam, a striking exotic hardwood native to Mexico and Central America. Known for its rich golden-brown heartwood with darker streaks and subtle figuring, Tzalam delivers a warm, elegant appearance that deepens with age and light exposure. The wood features a fine, uniform texture and straight to slightly interlocked grain that turns smoothly, making it an excellent choice for woodturners seeking something distinctive yet workable.

Turning & Finishing Notes

Tzalam turns well with sharp carbide or HSS tools at moderate speeds. Its density supports clean cuts with minimal tear-out when grain direction is respected. The wood sands to a smooth surface and accepts CA glue, friction polish, and most pen finishes beautifully, resulting in a high-luster, professional look. Use good dust extraction and a respirator during turning.
