Lochranza Distillery, situated in the picturesque village of Lochranza on the Isle of Arran, Scotland, was founded in 1995 by Isle of Arran Distillers, reviving legal whisky production on the island after over 150 years. Established by Harold Currie, a former Chivas director, it draws pristine water from Loch na Davie, filtered through six waterfalls, contributing to its fresh, fruity single malts. With four copper pot stills and a capacity of 1 million liters annually, Lochranza produces unpeated whiskies like Arran 10-Year-Old, noted for citrus, apple, and vanilla flavors, and cask finishes in Sauternes, Port, and Sherry. Its sister distillery, Lagg, opened in 2019 to focus on peated expressions. The visitor center, opened in 1997, offers tours, tastings, and the CASKS Café, earning awards like Best Visitor Experience 2018. Using Concerto barley and traditional methods, Lochranza balances modern technology with heritage. Its whiskies, including the Lochranza Reserve, are celebrated for elegance and are available in the well-stocked gift shop. The distillery’s scenic location, near a ruined castle, attracts global visitors, supported by sustainable practices like electric vehicle chargers.
