Since the 1870s, it has been customary for most presidents to plant a commemorative tree during their time in office. These trees, varying in species and age, symbolize the evolving history of "The People’s House," with the White House Gardens undergoing continual transformations with each passing season and administration.
Several trees within the White House Grounds have roots dating back to the 1800s, with the oldest being a southern magnolia associated with Andrew Jackson. President Jackson himself planted these majestic southern magnolias, positioned just west of the South Portico, in honor of his late wife, Rachel, who passed away shortly before his inauguration in 1829.
The significance of the trees surrounding the White House serve both symbolic and practical purposes. These trees can symbolize diplomatic friendships between nations or a leader's aspiration to leave behind a lasting legacy for future generations. They also contribute aesthetically, each boasting its own distinct characteristics of shape, color, and flowers, creating a stunning array of diversity. These trees provide habitats for various animals residing on the White House grounds. Lastly, the trees offer security, privacy, and solace to those who inhabit, work in, or visit this historic location.
Folklore tells us that these two southern magnolia trees were planted by President Andrew Jackson with seeds brought to Washington from the Hermitage, the President’s home near Nashville, Tennessee. The seeds were planted to honor the memory of Jackson's late wife, Rachel, who had died suddenly just months prior to him assuming office. Historical photographic documentation shows that magnolias first appeared at this location near the South Portico in the 1860s, still the trees are attributed to President Jackson. In 2006, the trees were designated as Witness Trees by the National Park Service, having borne witness to many “significant historic and cultural events.” The magnolia was subject to significant branch removal and pruning in December 2017. The Jackson Magnolia was a primary feature on the back of the US $20 bill until 1998 as seen below.

The Oak tree from which this hand-crafted item was made, witnessed the most important battle of the Civil War. On July 2nd, 1863, this tree watched over General Longstreet’s men as they prepared for an assault on the Peach Orchard, Round Top, and the Wheatfield. In 2002 this witness tree was claimed by a storm, and subsequently was removed from the battlefield by a company hired by the park service. Based off of the tree’s rings at the time of its falling, this tree was estimated to be at least 180 years old. It was located in the South Western edge of the battlefield.
Once removed a park service employee legally acquired the wood in an attempt to preserve a piece of history. I, Daniel Jones, certify that I personally purchased this wood from that employee and processed the raw materials used in this hand-crafted item.

Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston, MA, in what was known as the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was born in a small house at 17 Milk Street, across the street from the Old Meeting House. Franklin was born in this house and lived there for six years with his father Josiah, mother Abiah, and his 16 siblings. Benjamin was the 15th child and youngest son.
Franklin stated that he was born at the corner of Hanover and Union Street in Boston, but according to the Bostonian Society he was mistaken. Records show that Josiah Franklin was a tenant at 17 Milk Street from 1685 to 1712, where Benjamin was born in 1706. The family later moved to Hanover and Union Street, where his father's soap and candle shop was located. Benjamin lived there with his family until the age of 17, when he decided to leave for Philadelphia.
The current building that stands on 17 Milk Street is not the original where Franklin was born. The original building was destroyed by a fire in 1811, making room for the building that stands there today. There is a bust of Franklin commemorating his birthplace on the second floor facade of the building. The inscription on the wall reads “Birthplace of Franklinâ".
Hardin Penworks, LLC, certifies that the wood supplied to the artisan of the accompanying item was sourced from the historic spruce wood beams of the building currently occupying the original home of Benjamin Franklin on Milk Street.

Ocean City is an Atlantic resort town in Maryland along the East Coast of the United States. The population was 6,844 at the 2020 U.S. census, but during summer weekends the city hosts up to 345,000 vacationers and up to eight million visitors annually. During the summer, Ocean City becomes the second most populated municipality in Maryland, after Baltimore.
The Ocean City Boardwalk currently runs from South 2nd Street at the Ocean City Inlet in South Ocean City, up to 27th Street in South Ocean City. The boardwalk is home to food, shops, arcades, and amusements.
Originally called the "Atlantic Avenue", the first Ocean City boardwalk was constructed in 1902. After being damaged by a storm in 1962, the boardwalk was rebuilt to stretch a total of 2.25 miles, which is still its length today. Many years later the boardwalk would suffer extensive storm damage during Hurricane Gloria in 1985 which pummeled Ocean City with 89 mph winds. The boardwalk was refurbished, and a concrete sea wall was soon constructed following the storm to prevent further damage. The aftermath of Hurricane Gloria led to the first phase of extensive beach replenishment projects in Ocean City.
The Ocean City Boardwalk was damaged again in 2012 as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The boardwalk was flooded and half of it was destroyed as a result of the water coming so far onto shore. The boardwalk has since been rebuilt back to its original length and still attracts many tourists and families.

The Brooklyn Bridge is a hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge in New York City, spanning the East River between the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Opened on May 24, 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was the first fixed crossing across the East River. It was also the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time, with a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3 m) and a deck height of 127 ft (38.7 m) above mean high water. The span was originally called the New York and Brooklyn Bridge or the East River Bridge but was officially renamed the Brooklyn Bridge in 1915.
The Brooklyn Bridge has an elevated promenade open to pedestrians and cyclists in the center of the bridge, located 18 feet (5.5 m) above the automobile lanes. The promenade is usually located 4 feet (1.2 m) below the height of the girders, except at the approach ramps leading to each tower's balcony.[28] The path is generally 10 to 17 feet (3.0 to 5.2 m) wide, though this is constrained by obstacles such as protruding cables, benches, and stairways, which create "pinch points" at certain locations. The path narrows to 10 feet (3.0 m) at the locations where the main cables descend to the level of the promenade. Further exacerbating the situation, these "pinch points" are some of the most popular places to take pictures. As a result, in 2016, the NYCDOT revealed plans to double the promenade's width.
A center line was painted to separate cyclists from pedestrians in 1971, creating one of the city's first dedicated bike lanes. Initially, the northern side of the promenade was used by pedestrians and the southern side by cyclists. In 2000, these were swapped, with cyclists taking the northern side and pedestrians taking the southern side.
Pedestrian and bicycle access to the bridge from the Brooklyn side is from either the median of Adams Street at its intersection with Tillary Street or a staircase near Prospect Street between Cadman Plaza East and West. In Manhattan, the pedestrian walkway is accessible from crosswalks at the intersection of the bridge and Centre Street, or through a staircase leading to Park Row.

Buick is a division of the American automobile manufacturer General Motors. Named for automotive pioneer David Dunbar Buick, it was among the first American marques of automobiles established in 1908.
For much of its existence in the North American market, Buick has been marketed as a premium automobile brand, selling luxury vehicles positioned above GM's mainstream brands, while below the flagship luxury Cadillac division.
Buick produced 21,217 vehicles in 1914. There was a single series, the Series B, but it came in a variety of flavors. The Model B-24 and B-25 were offered in roadster or touring configurations with a 165 cubic-inch four-cylinder 22 horsepower engine. The B-35, B-37, and B-38 were available in Roadster or Touring configurations with a 221 cubic-inch four-cylinder 35 horsepower engine. The B-38 was the first in Buick’s history as a fully enclosed coupe vehicle. The top of the line Buick in 1914 was the Model B-55. It was powered by a six-cylinder 331 cubic-inch 48 horsepower engine, the first Buick vehicle to be powered by a six-cylinder engine.
These blanks are made from the hickory wooden wheel spokes of Buick Series B cars. The Buick Series B wheels were in production from 1914 to 1924. The wood is certified and distributed by Hardin Penworks, LLC. This material is guaranteed to be 100% Authentic.

The Cadillac V-63 is a large luxury automobile that was introduced in September 1923 by Cadillac as a 1924 model, replacing the previous Type 61. It used the GMC platform a rear wheel drive automobile chassis used by General Motors for its full-sized cars from 1925 through 1984.
The V-63 used an improved version of the L-head V8 engine that made Cadillac famous. The main innovation was a cross-plane crankshaft which improved balance and smoothness. The most noticeable update for 1925 was the introduction of two classifications of body style choices. The naming convention was refreshed for 1926 as the Series 314 signifying the engine displacement, with a further enlargement to 341 in 1928.
The first displacement upgrade to the Cadillac V8 was introduced in 1928, the first change since the engine was introduced in 1915. While the internal designation was now known as the Series 341-A. The car was advertised simply as "The New Cadillac" along with the introduction of LaSalle junior companion brand and was the first time there were more than one product line from Cadillac.

The Chevrolet Series 490, produced from 1916 to 1922, was the marque's first mass-market success, propelling it to rival Ford's Model T. Launched in 1915 as the Model 490 (priced at $490), it symbolized affordability and reliability during the post-World War I boom. By 1920, over 1.5 million units had been sold, making Chevrolet a dominant force in American motoring.
Mechanically, the 1920 490 featured a 224-cubic-inch inline-four engine with solid valve lifters, three main bearings, and a Zenith double-jet carburetor, delivering 24 horsepower—outpacing the Model T's 20 hp. It boasted a three-speed selective sliding-gear transmission, contrasting Ford's two-speed planetary setup, on a 102- to 104-inch wheelbase for stable handling. Suspension used semi-elliptic leaf springs, with a cone clutch and 3/4-floating rear axle paired to a 3.63:1 spiral bevel differential.
Standard equipment evolved to include electric horns, speedometers, ammeters, and dome lights on closed bodies, enhancing practicality. Touring models, the most popular body style, seated five and epitomized open-air motoring. Priced around $800 by 1921, the 490's blend of value, durability, and innovation cemented Chevrolet's legacy as an accessible innovator.

Dodge is an American brand of automobile manufactured in Auburn Hills, MI. Dodge vehicles currently include performance cars, though for much of its existence Dodge was Chrysler's mid-priced brand Plymouth.
Founded as the Dodge Brothers Company machine shop by brothers Horace Elgin Dodge and John Francis Dodge in the early 1900s, Dodge was originally a supplier of parts and assemblies for Detroit-based automakers, most notably Ford, and began building complete automobiles under the "Dodge Brothers" brand in 1914, predating the founding of Chrysler Corporation. The factory was located in Hamtramck, MI, and was called the Dodge Main factory from 1910 until its closing in January 1980. Both of the Dodge brothers died from the Spanish flu in 1920, and the company was sold by their families to Dillon, Read & Co. in 1925 before being sold to Chrysler in 1928.
For 1930, Dodge took another step up by adding a new eight-cylinder line to replace the existing six-cylinder. This basic format of a dual line with Six and Eight models continued through 1933. The cars were gradually streamlined and lengthened in step with prevailing trends of the day. To enhance production, in 1932 Chrysler built a factory in Los Angeles, CA where Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge and Plymouth vehicles were built until the factory closed in 1971.
The blanks are from the hickory wooden 14-spoke wheels of a 1933 Dodge Eight. The Dodge Eight was manufactured from 1930 to 1933. The wood is certified and distributed by Hardin Penworks, LLC. This material is guaranteed to be 100% Authentic.

Fisher Body was an automobile coachbuilder founded by the Fisher brothers in 1908 in Detroit, MI. It had been a division of General Motors for many years, but in 1984 was dissolved to form other General Motors divisions. Fisher & Company, originally Alloy Metal Products, continues to use the name. The name and its iconic "Body by Fisher" logo were well known to the public, as General Motors vehicles displayed a "Body by Fisher" emblem on their door sill plates until the mid-1990s. As of 2010, Fisher Coachworks, LLC went out of business.
In 1904 and 1905, brothers Fred and Charles Fisher came to Detroit where their uncle Albert Fisher had established Standard Wagon Works during the latter part of the 1880s. On July 22, 1908, Fred and Charles Fisher established the Fisher Body Company, and they shortly thereafter brought their five younger brothers into the business.
Prior to forming the company, Fred Fisher had built the body of the Cadillac Osceola at the C. R. Wilson Company. Starting in 1910, Fisher became the supplier of all closed bodies for Cadillac, and also built for Buick.
This wood is from the Albert Kahn-designed Fisher Body 23, on Piquette Street, in Detroit, MI, in 1919. The building is now part of the Piquette Avenue Industrial Historic District.
This material is guaranteed to be 100% Authentic.

Material Story
These unique pen blanks are crafted from original 1930 Ford Model A floorboards — genuine plywood nearly 100 years old.
The salvaged wood was in rough condition, showing decades of wear with gaps, separations, delaminations, and holes. To transform these fragile pieces into premium turnable blanks, we use two specialized processes:
Cactus Juice Stabilization: The more delicate plywood blanks are carefully wound with unwaxed dental floss to hold them together during processing. They then undergo a thorough vacuum stabilization process for over a week, followed by two additional weeks of soaking. Finally, they are heat-cured to fully stabilize the wood, resulting in durable, beautiful blanks that preserve the character of the original Ford plywood.
Resin Injection: For pieces with significant damage, we cast them in our DinoBone slots using either authentic Ford Blue or deep Black resin. The blanks are first placed in a vacuum chamber to remove air and draw resin deep into every gap and void. They are then topped off with additional resin and cured under 60 psi in a professional pressure pot, creating rock-solid, resin-filled pen blanks.
Every blank is a true resurrection of history — turning nearly unusable 1930s floorboards into stunning, one-of-a-kind pen blanks that any woodturner or collector will treasure.
The History of the Ford Model A
The Ford Model A, affectionately known as the “A-Model Ford” or “A-Bone” among hot-rodders and customizers, was Ford Motor Company’s second massive market success after the legendary Model T.
Production began on October 20, 1927, with the official introduction on December 2, 1927. The Model A replaced the Model T, which had been in production for 18 years. Designated as a 1928 model, it was available in four standard colors and featured modern improvements, including the standard “three-pedal” driver controls (clutch, brake, and throttle) with a conventional gearshift — a first for Ford.
The public response was overwhelming. By February 4, 1929, one million Model As had been sold. By July 24 of that year, two million were on the road. In March 1930, sales reached three million units with nine body styles available, ranging from the affordable Tudor sedan at $500 to the luxurious town car with dual cowl at $1,200.
Production of the Model A ended in March 1932 after a total of 4,858,644 vehicles were built. It was succeeded by the Model B (inline-4) and the legendary Model 18 with Ford’s first flathead V8 engine.
Owning a piece of a 1930 Model A floorboard means holding a tangible fragment of automotive history — from the Golden Age of American motoring when the Model A helped define an era of innovation, style, and freedom.

The Ford Model T colloquially known as the Tin Lizzie, Leaping Lena, Jitney or Flivver is an automobile produced by Ford Motor Company from October 1, 1908, to May 26, 1927. The Model T is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile, and the car that opened travel to the common middle-class American. Some of this was because of Ford's efficient fabrication and assembly line production instead of individual hand crafting. By 1918, half of all the cars in the U.S. were the Model T. At its height of production, the Model T line was manufacturing over 2 million cars a year in 1923, and it had its lowest original cost of $260 in 1925.
The Ford Model T was named the most influential car of the 20th century in the 1999 Car of the Century competition. Ford's Model T was successful not only because it provided inexpensive transportation on a massive scale, but also because the car signified innovation for the rising middle class becoming a powerful symbol of America's age of modernization. With 16.5 million sold it stands eighth on the top ten list of most sold cars of all time as of 2012.

All blanks will come with one COA per blank.
The Ford Model TT is a truck made by Ford. It was based on the Ford Model T, but with a longer wheelbase, and a heavier frame and rear axle, giving it a rating of 1 short ton. When the first three units were produced in 1917, the Model TT was sold as a chassis with the buyer supplying a body. The price was $600. Starting in 1924, the truck was available with a factory-produced body. By 1926 the price had dropped to $325, and in 1925, a hand-operated windshield wiper was added.
Although the Model TT was in production during 1917-1918, they were exclusively manufactured for the war effort for World War I with no civilian trucks produced. The Model T was widely used by the US and British armies during World War I as a staff car, ambulance, van and cargo truck, even as an artillery tractor, for which application the truck was fitted with twinned rear tires.
The rear axle of the TT has a worm drive and crown wheel, unlike the Model T's crown wheel and pinion. The wheelbase of the Model TT is 125 inches, compared to 100 inches for the Model T. The Model TT was very durable for the time, but slow at 15mph when compared to other trucks.
This material is guaranteed to be 100% Authentic.
Golden Gate Bridge 1937 Catwalk Redwood Pen Blank
Product Specifications
Blank Sizes: Sierra Clone style – 27/64" diameter tubes
Material: Genuine embedded wood from the original 1937 Golden Gate Bridge construction catwalk, made from ancient California Redwood.
All blanks include a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) with silver foil embossed seal.
Material Story
These exclusive pen blanks are crafted from original wooden catwalk planks used during the construction of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in 1937. The lumber came from California’s ancient redwood trees, carefully selected for strength to withstand the brutal winds and harsh conditions of the Golden Gate strait.
During construction, workers built a temporary wooden catwalk foot by foot across the mile-wide opening. Once the bridge was completed, these historic catwalk planks were removed and cut into smaller souvenir pieces. We have transformed these authentic fragments into premium embedded wood pen blanks that capture the incredible history and engineering marvel of one of the world’s most famous bridges.
Each blank is a direct piece of American engineering history — solid, unique, and full of character.
The History of the Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco and California. Spanning the Golden Gate strait — the one-mile-wide entrance to San Francisco Bay — the bridge connects the city of San Francisco to Marin County, carrying both U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1.
Designed by engineer Joseph Strauss and opened to traffic on May 27, 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge was an engineering triumph. At the time of its completion, it was the longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world, with a main span of 4,200 feet and towers rising 746 feet above the water. It was later named one of the Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Construction was incredibly challenging due to strong currents, high winds, and thick fog. To allow workers to build the massive suspension cables and roadway, a temporary wooden catwalk was constructed high above the water using lumber from California’s ancient redwood forests. Plank by plank, the catwalk was extended across the strait and secured against the powerful Pacific winds.
Once the bridge was finished, the historic catwalk was dismantled. Pieces of this original construction wood were preserved and sold as souvenirs — now extremely rare. Today, these redwood fragments offer a tangible connection to one of humanity’s greatest architectural achievements and a beloved landmark that continues to inspire millions.
Turning one of these blanks into a pen means carrying a small piece of the Golden Gate Bridge with you — a true icon of American ingenuity, beauty, and strength.

The Great Chicago Fire was a conflagration that burned in the American city of Chicago during October 8–10, 1871. The fire killed approximately 300 people, destroyed roughly 3.3 square miles of the city including over 17,000 structures, and left more than 100,000 residents homeless. The fire began in a neighborhood southwest of the city center. A long period of hot, dry, windy conditions, and the wooden construction prevalent in the city, led to the conflagration. The fire leapt the south branch of the Chicago River and destroyed much of central Chicago and then leapt the main branch of the river, consuming the Near North Side.
The fire is claimed to have started at about 8:30 p.m. on October 8, in or around a small barn belonging to the O'Leary family that bordered the alley behind 137 W. DeKoven Street. The shed next to the barn was the first building to be consumed by the fire. City officials never determined the cause of the blaze, but the rapid spread of the fire due to a long drought in that year's summer, strong winds from the southwest, and the rapid destruction of the water pumping system, explain the extensive damage of the mainly wooden city structures.
The wood sourced for this item was removed by Hans Wilkins during a November 2013 renovation of the third floor, top floor, of the Coach House off alley in the teens block of East Division Chicago, IL. This structure was the only one on the block to survive the Great Chicago Fire. The wood is distributed and certified by Hardin Penworks, LLC.
Blanks are from wooden bleachers of the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA. This wood was removed during the 2003-2004 renovation.

The Hollywood Bowl is an amphitheater in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA. It was named one of the 10 best live music venues in America by Rolling Stone magazine in 2018.
The Hollywood Bowl is known for its band shell, a distinctive set of concentric arches that graced the site from 1929 through 2003, before being replaced with a larger one beginning in the 2004 season. The shell is set against the backdrop of the Hollywood Hills and the famous Hollywood Sign to the northeast.
The "bowl" refers to the shape of the concave hillside the amphitheater is carved into. The Bowl is owned by the County of Los Angeles and is the home of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the host venue to hundreds of musical events each year.
It is located at 2301 North Highland Ave, west of the (former) French Village, north of Hollywood Blvd. and the Hollywood - Highland subway station, and south of Route 101.

The Hudson Motor Car Company manufactured Hudson and other brand automobiles in Detroit, MI, from 1909 to 1954. In 1954, Hudson merged with Nash-Kelvinator to form American Motors Corporation. The Hudson name was continued through the 1957 model year, after which it was discontinued.
Originally, the Essex was to be a product of the Essex Motor Company, a wholly owned entity of Hudson Motor Car Company. The Essex brand of automobile was produced by the Essex Motor Company between 1918 and 1922, and later by Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit, MI between 1922 and 1933.
When Hudson introduced the Essex brand line of automobiles, it was originally for budget-minded buyers, and it was designed to compete with Ford and Chevrolet, as opposed to the more up-scale Hudson line. The Essex found great success by offering one of the first affordable sedan moving the combined Hudson and Essex sales from seventh to third by 1925 in the U.S. The Essex is generally credited with starting a trend away from open touring car designs toward enclosed passenger compartments.
More than 1.13 million Essex automobiles were sold by the time the Essex name was retired in 1932. That year the Essex Motor Company was dissolved, and the cars officially became a product of Hudson.

The Hughes H-4 Hercules (also known as the Spruce Goose; registration NX37602) is a prototype strategic airlift flying boat designed and built by the Hughes Aircraft Company. Intended as a transatlantic flight transport for use during World War II, it was not completed in time to be used in the war. The aircraft made only one brief flight on November 2, 1947, and the project never advanced beyond the single example produced.
Built from wood because of wartime restrictions on the use of aluminum and concerns about weight, the aircraft was nicknamed the Spruce Goose by critics, although it was made almost entirely of birch. The Hercules is the largest flying boat ever built, and it had the largest wingspan of any aircraft that had ever flown until the Scaled Composites Stratolaunch first flew on April 13, 2019. The aircraft remains in good condition. After having been displayed to the public in Long Beach, California, from 1980 to 1991, it is now on display at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon, United States.
